On-the-Job Training (OJT)
OJT focuses on the acquisition of skills and knowledge required for the job that is passed on by a supervisor or an experienced staff member in the department.
Faculty General Office (FGO) staff members will undergo a structured OJT training at the Division of Examinations, Awards and Scholarships, Department of Admissions and Credit Evaluation, Division of Finance and Department of Student Affairs.
In-House Training
In-House Training programmes are organised by the Centre for Extension Education for the academic and administrative staff members throughout the year.
The in-house training programmes are announced via mail master and listed in the E-Training system at the staff portal (Web2) for application by the staff members.
External Training
Staff members may apply for sponsorship from the University to attend a training organised by an external provider which is subjected to the application meeting the criteria for Sponsorship to Attend Training and Conference.
Staff members who wish to attend a training on self-funding basis may be granted training leave.
Conference
The University encourages its academic staff members to present papers on their research findings at international conferences. Participants at conferences enables the staff members to stay up-to-date with the developments in their research area which will enhance their teaching and research in the University and provides opportunities for networking and collaboration with other experts in their research area.
Academic staff members who have papers accepted for presentation at a conference may apply for sponsorship from the University to attend the conference held locally or overseas which is subjected to the application meeting the criteria for sponsorship stated in the Policy on Sponsorship to Attend Training and Conference.
Staff members who wish to attend a conference on self- funding may be granted conference leave.
Staff Scholarship
The University has established a Staff Scholarship Scheme whereby staff members may apply for financial scholarship to pursue their postgraduate studies. The scholarship awarded would be based on the staff member meeting the eligibility and assessment criteria for sponsorship stated in the Policy on UTAR Staff Scholarship Award.
Staff Exchange Programme
The University advocates the fostering of partnerships with foreign universities to have an international network of scholars who can engage in intellectual and cultural exchange to enhance the quality of the leaning experience at UTAR.
Academic staff members may apply to undergo a Staff Exchange Programme to conduct teaching at partner institutions / universities with the assistance of Division of Community and International Networking.
Leave for Fieldwork
Academic staff members who need to be away from their workplace for five (5) days or less to carry out research work within Malaysia which is related to a research project registered with IPSR may apply for Leave for Fieldwork.
Research Leave
Academic staff members who have a research project registered with the Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research (IPSR) may apply for research leave to undertake an uninterrupted period of research. The research leave is considered a privilege granted to a staff member who meets the eligibility criteria stated in the Policy on Research Leave.
Sabbatical Leave
Leave for Industrial Attachment
An academic staff member who is on regular employment and is required to undergo an industrial attachment in order to attain / maintain a professional qualification in the relevant area may apply for the leave for industrial attachment.
Study Leave
The University may grant study leave without pay to enable a staff member to undertake a course of study that is relevant to his field of study, or for the completion of a postgraduate study depending on the merits of each case.
For staff pursuing a course of study under the University's sponsorship, the study leave granted may be with full pay or half pay as approved by the University.
Examination Leave
The University may grant examination leave to enable the staff member who is pursing a course of study to sit for his / her examination. The staff member is required to submit a copy of the examination docket or a letter from the institution of study on the examination period as documentary evidence.
