The University provides a Mobile Phone and Internet Subscription Allowance to all academic staff members.
The University provides staff members a monthly Parking Allowance.
The University provides staff members a monthly Travelling Allowance.
The University provides medical benefits to staff and their recognised dependents within Malaysia in accordance with the prevailing provisions in the Medical Scheme.
Recognised dependents means the lawful spouse who is not gainfully employed and their five (5) surviving children aged below twenty-one (21) years old who are not gainfully employed.
Staff members are required to submit the Application for Medical Card form to register themselves and their recognised dependents under the University's Medical Scheme.
The details of the Medical Scheme are in the Policy on Appointment of Panel Clinics and Medical Benefits which is available for viewing under UTAR Policies - DHR and the Application for Medical Card form can be downloaded under UTAR Forms - DHR Forms at the staff intranet.
The University provides staff members with dental benefit which is reimbursable up to the fixed amount per year. The staff member is required to submit the Official Receipt for the dental treatment for reimbursement to DHR.
1.0 Annual Leave
1.1 Staff on Regular Employment
Staff in regular employment shall, in addition to rest days and public holidays applicable to his place of work, be entitled to paid annual leave in respect of a full year of service as stated in the Handbook on Human Resource Policies and Regulations.
1.2 Staff on Contract
Staff in Category A shall, in addition to rest days and public holidays applicable to his place of work, be entitled to paid annual leave as stated in their contracts of employment.
Staff in Category B, C & D, in addition to rest days and public holidays applicable to his place of work, be entitled to paid annual leave as stated in their contracts of employment.
2.0 Sick and Hospitalisation Leave
2.1 Staff members shall be entitled to sick leave on certification by a Panel doctor or registered dental surgeon or in cases of emergency, any other registered medical practitioners as follows:
1st to 2nd year of service - 14 working days
3rd to 5th year of service - 18 working days
6th year and above - 22 working days
2.2 Hospitalisation leave entitlement shall be 60 days in aggregate in each calendar year.
3.0 Maternity Leave
A female staff shall be entitled to paid maternity leave for a period of 98 consecutive days including rest days and public holidays in respect of each confinement in accordance with the provisions in the Employment Act 1955.
4.0 Matrimonial / Paternity / Compassionate / Calamity Leave
The University may grant the matrimonial/compassionate/calamity leave with full pay to staff up to two (2) consecutive working days per occurrence in one (1) calendar year.
The University may grant married male staff members the paternity leave up to 5 confinements irrespective of the number of spouses. Staff members with less than 1 year of service are entitled to 2 consecutive days of Paternity leave. Staff members with 1 year or more of service are entitled to 7 consecutive days of Paternity leave.
The leave granted are subjected to the terms and conditions stated in the HR Policies and Regulations.
5.0 Pilgrimage Leave
Confirmed staff who are Muslim and have been in continuous service for five (5) years or more may apply for pilgrimage leave up to a maximum of thirty (30) consecutive days of paid leave including rest days and public holidays.
The University provides staff uniform to the following categories of staff due to the nature of their work.
1) Technician/Lab Assistant
2) Chargeman
3) Handyman
4) General Worker
5) Driver/Bus Driver
UTAR grants the discount on tuition and course fees to confirmed staff and full-time contract staff in service for more than one (1) year for the following:
(i) 25% discount on tuition fees for staff who pursue undergraduate (including foundation) and postgraduate programmes in UTAR, subject to a maximum of RM15,000.00.
(ii) 25% discount on course fees for staff who enrol for public non-professional or personal interest programmes organised by UTAR.
The staff member may apply for the discount on the tuition/course fees by completing and forwarding the Application for Discount on Fees for UTAR staff form to DHR. The staff member is required to submit a copy of the student bill which has been duly paid as supporting document. The Application for Discount on Fees for UTAR staff children form can be downloaded from the staff intranet under UTAR Forms - DHR Forms.
UTAR grants tuition fees waiver up to a maximum of RM40,000.00 for the entire programme of study with no service bond requirement for each child of a staff member pursuing undergraduate programme (including foundation programme) in UTAR subject to a maximum of 2 children per staff.
Each qualified child as stated above must achieve a minimum GPA of 2.67 to continue enjoying the tuition fees waiver for the following semester.
For the third and subsequent children of the staff member pursuing undergraduate programme (including foundation) in UTAR, UTAR would grant 25% discount on the prevailing tuition fees, subject to a maximum of RM10,000.00 for each child.
For children of a staff pursuing postgraduate programmes in UTAR, UTAR grants 25% discount on the tuition fees, subject to a maximum of RM10,000.00 for each child.
For children of a staff who enrol for a public non-professional or personal interest programme organized by UTAR, UTAR grants 25% discount on the course fee.
Only confirmed staff and full-time contract staff in service for more than one (1) year will qualify for the above tuition fee waiver/discount for their children.
The staff member may apply for the discount on the tuition/course fees by completing and forwarding the Application for Discount on Fees for UTAR staff children form to DHR. The staff member is required to submit a copy of the student bill which has been duly paid and a copy of his child's birth certificate as supporting documents. The Application for Discount on Fees for UTAR staff children form can be downloaded from the staff intranet under UTAR Forms - DHR Forms.
The University provides mileage allowance to staff members who are required to use their own vehicle to carry out official duties.
The rates for reimbursement for motorcar and motorcycle are listed in the Handbook on HR Policies and Regulations, and are available for viewing at the staff intranet under UTAR Policies - DHR.
The University provides lodging and subsistence allowance to staff members who are required to perform official duties at locations beyond a radius of 50km from his normal place of work.
Lodging Allowance
The staff member is eligible to claim for lodging allowance for accommodation at hotels which is supported by the hotel bill or the lodging allowance without receipt based on their job grade entitlement.
Subsistence Allowance
The staff member is eligible to claim for the full day subsistence allowance if he is working away from his normal work station for a continuous period exceeding twenty-four (24) hours as from the time of departure.
Day Allowance
The staff member is eligible to claim for the day allowance which is equivalent to one-half of his subsistence allowance eligibility if he is working away from his normal work station for more than eight (8) hours but less than twenty-four (24) hours including time in travelling.
The Lodging/Subsistence Allowance Entitlement by Job Grade is listed in the Handbook on HR Policies & Regulations, and is available for viewing at the staff intranet under UTAR Policies - DHR.
In the event of the death of a staff member, the University will pay one month of the last drawn basic salary (without EPF contribution) to the deceased staff's nominated beneficiary.
The staff member is required to submit the Nomination of Beneficiary Form which can be downloaded at the staff intranet under UTAR Forms - DHR Forms.
The University has a Group Personal Accident (GPA) Insurance Scheme where the full time staff members are covered in case of death and permanent or total disablement due to accidents.
The quantum of sum insured for the above GPA Insurance Scheme is 36 months of last drawn basic salary of the full time staff.
The cover afforded by the above GPA Insurance Scheme is world-wide, 24 hours basis, covering accidents happening during the course of employment as well as accidents happening at home, in the course of travelling to the place of work and during social or sports activities not specifically excluded.
The above GPA Insurance Scheme shall be in accordance with the terms, conditions, limitation and exclusions clauses contained in the said policy.
The detailed schedule of the various compensation, limitations and exclusions under the GPA Insurance Scheme is obtainable on request from the Division of Human Resources.
